VOLUNTEER

Each year, this event enjoys the support of more than 400 volunteers drawn from runners' families, civic groups, church groups, friends, and neighbors who ensure the event runs smoothly and cheer participants to the finish line.

We encourage everyone to sign up online for a volunteer position to support the race and beneficiary. Consider building a team that can man a water station, help with food prep, check in runners before the race, cheer at the finish line, and hand out medals.

Running the race? You can still help on the day before the race at packet pick-up, or the day of the race in a number of different capacities.

All volunteers will receive a free long-sleeve cotton t-shirt!

What's your favorite part about volunteering?
  • Watching all the fabulous runners come up the last hill.
  • Seeing the gratitude of the runners for just handing them a cup of water.
  • Being a part of a wonderful Charlottesville event
  • A lot of the runners were very appreciative
  • Being part of a community event and helping the runners.
  • Working with the other volunteers - they're wonderful!
  • Seeing friends and helping a great race and thanks for the t-shirt!
  • People were friendly this year. Volunteer shirts are awesome!
  • Met very nice and (mostly) patient people.
  • Cheering people on. Seeing friends run by.
  • The bell and cheering the runners on with it! Also the t shirt was cool! And people were very appreciative of my volunteer work and they told me
  • Meeting some of my fellow racers on the eve of the big run.
  • While working at the event I saw so many friends who were taking part in the race.  It was great to chat with them and also to see some of my parents (students that I teach) who were taking part in the event for the first time.  Yes they had a few jitters!  :)
  • Interacting with the Charlottesville community, and receiving gratitude from all the participants.
  • Cheering with the neighborhood.
  • I love telling other runners good luck and to enjoy the race.
  • Being part of a community
  • Seeing lots of friendly faces
  • Cheering on all the runners especially those who looked like they really needed it and those who were vocally so appreciative. And seeing everyone that I know personally and their smiles when I called out to them.
  • People we work with. The runners responses was excellent.
  • Was at the food table and got to take home some left overs!!! Awesome.
  • The satisfaction of doing something good for several organizations that help people in the community.
  • Meeting and helping the people signed up to run in the 10 miler.
  • Dancing at my post and seeing the reaction of the runners to our antics.
  • Seeing the determination strength and joy in runner/ walkers
  • Being a part of something bigger than myself
  • Event well organized and our instructions were plentiful and informative. I was able to get in a decent workout by walking back to finish from my post.
  • Cheering for everyone and having people wave back!
  • I enjoyed being able to cheer on all the runners. I'm a runner myself and I know how it is everyone runs for different reasons and seeing how hard everyone was pushing themselves and that I could be inspiring/ encouraging was great. It was also nice seeing my coworkers run in it.
  • Again, glad to give the boys a chance to give back, and it is a fun event that the community galvanizes around.
  • The t-shirts and the community!
