2017 Beneficiaries
Literacy Volunteers Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle (LVCA) addresses low literacy and undereducation among adults in our region through free, individualized reading, writing and English language instruction. Our mission is to help individuals become better workers, consumers, neighbors, citizens and parents through one-to-one tutoring. Since 2012, LVCA has experienced a 72% increase in enrolled students, 413 students in 2016 up from 239. As our community continues to attract and absorb non-English-speaking individuals, there will continue to be a rise in the need of our services. Thanks to collaborations with community partners and our over 300 dedicated tutors, we are able to continue to serve our students with individualized tutoring, geared towards accomplishing their goals and improving their lives.
